Online poker legalization hearing in Feb 2010
California is the only state in America which is fighting for online poker legalization and wants to use online gambling revenues for state welfare and development.
California’s this years budget fall short due to on going global crisis and now the state legislative’s have agreed to take the matter to the senate for proper implementation of online poker and other gambling games.
There are around 1 million players who regularly play online poker in the state of California. The California would become the first state to explicitly legalize and regulate intrastate online poker if this proposal becomes law.
The hearing for regulations of online poker will be heard next year in February.
It has also been said that current ruling by the U.S. third circuit court of appeals clarified that the UIGEA, which was passed in 2006, did not criminalize any forms of online gambling. That law just affects the payment processors and how money can be transferred onto sites.
